About the Using iNaturalist with the City Nature Challenge category

Welcome, City Nature Challenge participants!

This is a temporary category for the City Nature Challenge, a worldwide event from April 26th to May 5th, 2024, in which people from hundreds of cities will be sharing their observations of plants, animals, and other wild organisms, and most of that sharing is done on iNaturalist.

The City Nature Challenge (CNC) uses iNaturalist as a platform for recording and identifying observations of organisms, but iNaturalist itself does not organize or run the CNC - it is organized at the global level by the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County with hundreds of city-level organizers from a variety of organizations.

This category is intended only for questions and concerns about using iNaturalist in conjunction with the CNC so please refrain from starting topics or asking questions that are more appropriate for global or local organizers.

It’s likely most questions you have can be answered on the City Nature Challenge’s website FAQ page or on this forum thread, so please read those before posting anything here. We also have a topic listing other resources. If your question or concern is not addressed in any of those resources, you can create an account here at the Forum (please use your iNaturalist username), take some time to browse around and gain the appropriate trust level, and then start a new topic here. You can also email help@inaturalist.org for technical support.

If you do have a question, please provide as many specific details as possible, such as which app you are using, the URLs of any pertinent observation, and any screenshots you can take. Here are instructions for how to take a screenshot on several types of devices: https://www.take-a-screenshot.org

Thank you and enjoy the City Nature Challenge!
