My main thought is that this probably takes a lot of server input – it would have to go through every species and check who made the first observation, regularly, to update profiles. Maybe if it was only updated once a day or so it would be less of a server strain.
Remembering that it would have to “remove” firsts if the observation is identified differently.
yeah, even the existing ‘new species’ notifications on the calendar page don’t really work.
We’ve done some thinking to see if this is doable, I’m not sure if any conclusions have been reached yet. If implemented, it wouldn’t happen until we revamp profile pages - likely not happening soon. I’ve added it to the list of ideas for the revamp, though.

Susan - I’m just afraid that with your number of observations, the result might be “all of them”! ;-)
