**Platform** : Android **App version number** , if a mobile app issue: 1.27.2 (638) **Description of problem** : When I do certain actions within an observation during upload, the observation seems to reload and displays “importing photo(s)” dialog again. All photos will be duplicated or re-imported (if one has been cropped, the original un-cropped version will be the second one. I cannot reliably duplicate it as it doesn’t happen every single time. But it is often enough to be an annoyance (it just happened on two of three I just uploaded from the app). The action can be almost anything. Identifying with CV, cropping a photo, adding to a project. All those will trigger the duplication sometimes (and sometimes not). Step 1: Navigate to photos. Select photos for upload. Click Share and share to iNaturalist Step 2: Within observation, do any of the actions I listed. Often times the photos will be copied. I haven’t tried different methods of adding photos, like browsing to them from the add observation dialog. This is the workflow I’ve used for a long time and seems to be the most efficient way on Android. This has also been happening for months, so I don’t think it’s a new version issue. I experience this on the android app too. It seems to happen intermittently. ---

I get this pretty often, glad to hear it’s not just on my end. Cropping photos seems to be a big trigger for mine to have an error, but sometimes it seems to happen of its own accord. I get a related (probably) bug that happens where I duplicate and crop a photo and then end up either losing that photo entirely, or having the cropped version revert to the original duplicate. Sometimes it seems that playing with contrast/brightness makes the issue worse, I wish I knew more about how the app syncs, since I think that must have some bearing on the cause of this bug! ---

I think it has more to do with returning to the main observation screen than it does the action you’re performing. Today I was cropping and ended up exiting without doing anything. Just pressing back triggered the import/duplicate bug. I think it happened on all my observations today. Some of them multiple times. When you have 6 photos in an observation it gets really old deleting them one by one, sometimes multiple times per observation ---

I wanted to bring this back up. Last night I uploaded my photos from a moth sheet and it was a really terrible experience. The duplication happened on almost every observation, often multiple times. I had one observation with 5 photos. The duplication happened after cropping all 5 and after using the CV to identify it. That’s 30 photos I had to delete one by one. I was very tempted to just stop cropping my photos since any time it leaves the main screen is another chance for the duplication. I even had it happen twice yesterday during deleting of a duplicate photo. For what it’s worth, towards the end of my uploading, I force closed the app and continued. The last 3 or so observations after doing that had no duplication ---
