Hey everyone! Any ambassadors in the NJ Easter PA or DE area? How are your events/ideas about events going?
Hi! I’m an NJ permanent resident with too little time to apply for the program and fulfill ambassador program requirements. I was thinking about encouraging one of my school’s student organizations to let me join their upcoming executive board so I could plan monthly “Introduction to iNaturalist” workshops and monthly identification parties (separate events) during our weekly common hour. The webinar recording for the introduction to the ambassador program also suggested other events like organizing people to go on outings to support existing bioblitzes, making and hosting your own bioblitzes, going on guided nature walks, etc.
Since iNaturalist is a global platform: just a general remark, not just to you @goldenbee19 - it is great to add “USA“ or similar (which I think you is the area you are interested in?), for instance when it comes to “DE“, this can mean a lot of places, such as
Yes, that’s good practice, and it’s fine only in context with the other state abbreviations listed because people would assume the abbreviations are of places that are close to one another, prompting people not familiar to figure out that this is regarding the tri-state area in the U.S. including New Jersey, U.S.; Pennsylvania, U.S., and Delaware, U.S. But yes, “DE” alone could mean any of the above.
Anyway, I forgot to add that I think our tri-state area is rather large, and it would be difficult to physically network all people in this general area unless the ambassadors are located in or near the Delaware Water Gap. I personally don’t have friends in Western New Jersey or elsewhere who live there, so if we want to collaborate on synchronous groups for tri-state area bioblitz we’d need a lot more people to organize. It would also be my first time organizing a bioblitz. Hopefully someone near us can speak up.
Thank you for bringing it to my attention. It was rude of me, and I will do better in the future.
Update: What my post should have said was:
Hey everyone! Any USA ambassadors in the New Jersey or Eastern Pennsylvania, or Delaware area? How are your events/ideas about events going?
@goldenbee19 don`t worry, as I said it was rather a general remark, not just directed at you, it did not feel rude. Since iNaturalist originated in the US, its early focus was naturally centered there—so it’s understandable that users might overlook its truly global scope sometimes.
