We took the kids to Legoland a couple of weeks ago and while they were enjoying one of the play areas I was keeping myself entertained by watching the many birds that kept flying over. There were Red Kites, various corvids, gulls and buzzards among others. I pointed out a buzzard sized raptor to my wife and said that I couldn’t work out what it was. It looked like a buzzard but it didn’t ‘jizz’ like a buzzard. I didn’t think much more if it until the bird nerd news flagged up a Booted Eagle had been seen in the area that weekend. People seemed to give the same description as me. Buzzard but not a buzzard. This is the first one that’s been properly verified in the UK apparently. 32 sightings in 25 years and none were photographed and accepted. Probably because they look like buzzards…
