Are you supposed to have fufilled requirements to be able to host a world _____ week/day?

I just want to know the answer to this question:

Are you supposed to have fufilled requirements to be able to host a world _____ week/day? Or can anybody host one?

What is a “world _____ week/day”?

world wasp day, world bee day, world ocean week, blah blah blah

You can make a project, if that is what you are asking.
Check around so you don’t overlap with an existing date / project.

I maybe completely missing your question, but my understanding is that most of these events have an origin or history behind them. Some organisation or set of individuals who started something sometime ago (decades even) that then became a ‘world’ event. Most users on iNat can create projects, and admins of these events are also, of course, iNat users, but those projects aren’t necessarily akin to events you’re referring to.

I guess one answer to the question might be that individuals who are associated with those events typically ‘host’ or administer the event projects. Techinally, not just anyone on iNat.

What kind of requirements would you expect?

I host World Bee Day/Week and World Ocean’s Day/Week

Like, for example, ambassador or something similar. Or maybe the original starter of the holiday.

Well, I am an ambassador now but at the time of the inception of both that did not exist.

I started a project recognizing World Bee Day because at the time there were no efforts to have a bioblitz on iNaturalist in recognition of the UN declaration by the General Assembly in 2017. Since 2023 I have been studying Native Bees through the OSU Master Melittologist Program - I completed the Apprentice level and then completed the Journey level December 2024. They have just started the Masters Level so that will be one of my next tasks. With some understanding and enthusiasm I have tried to create a bioblitz that best serves the recognition of something so important.

With regards to the World Oceans Week bioblitz. This bioblitz was also created in recognition of World Oceans day which was a UN recognized event. The first project was created by the late mkkennedy. I joined the project in 2022 and became manager of the project in part because of a thread started by @astra_the_dragon to come up with a filter for marine organisms https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/help-me-create-a-filter-for-marine-life-wiki/28084 . I had studied Marine Invertebrate biology amongst other marine biology studies so this was a subject very dear and was my main impetus to try to record and list my exposures to the many organisms I had come across. The project was not carried forward in 2023 or 2024 so I decided to reinstate it in 2025 and 2026. Again, I think with some understanding and enthusiasm I have tried to maintain a bioblitz that best serves the recognition of something so important.

I would consider both of these projects grassroots. I would not consider authority on these areas but they are helping me to better understanding.

Oh, so, technically, no requirements? That’s good.

I am fully qualified to host the world procrastination week, I had a two and half months worth of backlog of photos to upload.
This would be a remote event with no broadcast. Drop me a line if you are interested, I will start thinking of replying straight away.

I have an entire year of photos in my camera …

I have noticed you now have a World Fungus Day project. Awesome. Congratulations! Time to get the word out by letting like minded minds know. There is some work to do to make this succeed. Having an initial journal can help for comments and inviting. I made mine for a week because not everyone interested can make time for it if it is just one day - everyone has lives and even with the best intentions things get in the way.

huh ok
