Good suggestion! I hadn’t thought of that. It was maybe 2cm long 1cm wide. :feather:

This asian Koel

This common guava blue.
Pretty decent for my first few attempts with a camera :D

This guy! One thing that makes photographing koels such a treat is the contrast between their iridescent black feathers and ruby red eyes!

Me, too, Danly. I didn’t even notice it until I was processing the photo!

Had a record cold spell in the Piedmont of North Carolina (USA), bringing some interesting waterfowl to my neighborhood lake in early February. A small flock of Redhead stayed for several days and fed in some shallows near a park. They became fairly tame and I was able to get some decent images. In my experience, this species is usually shy, likely due to its experience with hunters.

They dabbled or dove in the shallows for vegetation, but they also fed avidly on cold-stunned fish. They stole these from each other and attempted to wrest them from Hooded Mergansers. Observations at:

This zayapa is one of my favorites, not that it is anything rare or seldom observed. Indeed, there are thousands of zayapa observations, but most are distant shots rather than close-ups of the ‘face.’

It’s indeed a pretty cool shot.

Wow! Or should I say “Yikes!?”
Bonus points for turning the Note into a gripping tale of adventure

I feel so lucky to be able to share the experience.

So cedar-kicking is a thing apparently…

Thank you, like I said lucky!

Ha! Who knew?

I have mused many times of another user commenting on the post: “That was you I saw that day? That was me kicking the stump!”, and from then on the user would be forever endowed with the nickname, “The Karate Kid”.
