I recently built a free (print yourself) A3 calendar using some of my iNat photos, and I was thinking it might be nice to actually have iNat sell calendars through its store :)
Some ideas that come to mind:
- one taxonomic group per month
- or the whole calendar could be one taxonomic group (eg “beetles” or “birds”)
- or one country/region per month
- could be the most appealing 31 species per month, or the most frequent ones
- many other things possible
- would be easy to create in different languages
This might be a nice way to showcase the beauty of iNat (and biodiversity). It’s always hanging on the wall, so it’s a great conversation starter and entry point.
If you want, you can check out (and print) my current version. The iNat observation links for each photo can be reached by clicking on the photo in the PDF, or via a web interface when scanning the QR code on every calendar page. On an official iNat calendar, this could link to taxon pages instead.
I have the general workflow established as python scripts; it should not be too much work to crank out a few of these. And I’d be happy to do that, if there’s any interest.
What do you think?
