I want to see a crossbill this year, because they’re cute and cool and I haven’t seen one.
Mine would probably be a malabar pied hornbill, since they are both pretty common and also heckin epic. I’m yet to see one so far.
Yes–I’ve had the same experience, sadly. So I’ve virtually stopped using eBird except to maintain a life list. I used to post photos there a lot but got discouraged with interactions there so mostly stopped. I find iNaturalist to be much more helpful and have had great interactions and learning experiences. It’s a much more positive site and experience.
Wow! They are absolutely epic! Hope you see one. It’s not a experience you can forget.
Northern Pintail!
I want to see one and I have a pretty good chance of seeing some at the local lake!
They look so cool!
This Blue Tit amuses me. It’s going into a hole in the tree (edit - or perhaps coming out looking at the shape of the tail fathers), but it looks like it’s flown slap-bang into it.
Maybe not a funny picture, but a funny moment. Whilst I was taking pictures of a flock of Glossy Ibis, my wife had a sneezing fit. She was desperately trying to stifle the sneezes thinking I’d be upset if she scared the birds off. All that happened though was that with every sneeze they jumped up startled and landed back down in the water, no flapping or flying off. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to capture the moment, but we did both have a fit of the giggles.
Or ballet.
That’s hilarious!
A few photos I have. Idk if it’s funny to other people, but i thought it was, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A real photo of me studying at 3 am with nothing but coffee keeping me awake.
Boing!
Meep!
This needs a bit of context. This Jungle babbler was harrasing crows. It flew really high up amongst the plants and proceeded to laugh at the crows, as those noisy little birbs tend to do.
I Imagine it saying
“ITS OVER ANAKIN! I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND!”
Haha! They laugh at my cats too!
I Imagine it saying pretty much the same thing, because my cats don’t know how to reach it that high up.
The first one of the little owl is hilarious.
I have many target birds for the remainder of the year, but I think my top one is Tropical Kingbird. For some reason, they show up along the U.S. West Coast in late fall, and since it’s a species I missed in Arizona, I think it would be a great bird to get in my home state.
I can definitely tell that the autumn season is coming on, as suddenly bird activity has nearly vanished. All spring and summer, I could count on seeing and/or hearing Cardinals anytime I went out; no sign of them now. Yesterday, even my reliable spot for Mockingbirds had only one Mockingbird in sight.
But then came a surprise treat. I went down to a spot I know on the stream bank, a thicket of invasive Chinese privet, though with native vines mixed in. After a few minutes, a Black-throated Blue Warbler passed by, near enough that I didn’t need my bins. It isn’t a lifer, but it is only the second or possibly third time I have seen one, and it’s not one I get to see every year.
That happened to me too! One flew and perched right in front of me. I had only seen the male once before 4 years ago when I saw a male and female. I saw a female/juvenile last fall but it was pretty awesome to see a male again.
