Birding/Birdwatching Discussion Topic

Lol,here in india everyone says that the peacock is the best, coolest bird. It is the national bird after all. But this often draws attention away from every other bird in existence. I prefer the Himalayan monal (favorite pheasant), the pied kingfisher, and the tiny tickell’s blue flycatcher. Although my favorite of all time is definitely the Indian Paradise flycatcher. All of these birds are native and can be found in india, in fact some of them are quite common! But literally no one cares about them (at least, not most people I’ve met).

Same! My main goal next time I go to any bird sanctuary is to try and spot a lesser whistling duck. I don’t know why, but I am obsessed with them. Although I don’t have a very good photo of them. I did get this one though, which I think came out perfectly:

(This is an indian spot-billed duck)

Nope, I don’t. Nor do I use reddit, Instagram, or Facebook. I do have a you-tube channel, but the last time I uploaded was a year ago, back when I didn’t need glasses and didn’t know that birds are dinosaurs. Now the only thing upload are cool bugs I find.

That’s awesome you have a YouTube channel. What is the name of it?

I got email notification of this post. In case you’re interested, I started a thread about my bird feeding experience and the squirrels at Squirrels and Birdseed - Nature Talk - iNaturalist Community Forum. Someone told me about this thread, which is why I was looking at it.

There’s a million channels with the same name. Plus, most of those videos come from… a year or two ago, so they are kinda… cringe. But just my user-name in youtube, and you’ll find it.

What’s the current leader in theories as to why that is?

Is it selection pressure of the cost of the process of migration (as most eastern species started in the west)?

That quote refers to this specific species and subspecies only. I did not read theory. It is merely a descriptive statement. You can look it up on the links I provided.
