BOTW (Bird of the Week) Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
YB Sapsuckers are really cool birds.
I got Red-bellied Woodpecker and Downy Woodpecker today!
I saw some Canada geese, American robins, black-billed magpies, American crows, house finches, and dark eyed juncos today.
BOTW: no photo, but The Doctor and I got audio of the tail end of a noisy territorial argument between three Northern Flickers. It was a good hike.
I’ve seen a Great Spotted Woodpecker, no photos though :(
And I’ve heard a Green Woodpecker, still trying to get a good recording…
Once I was at a pool party and there was a red-shafted Northern Flicker flying around.
I saw a downy woodpecker on one of our bird feeders through the window, horrible image quality and you can’t really see the red on its head but it was there.
That’s a great shot. I really love that it is close enough to see details but wide enough to get a sense of the bird moving in the habitat.
New Zealand has no woodpeckers but I’ll be birding for some endemics and natives today.
Thanks very much. When I first captured it, I didn’t think much of it - only that it would be good enough for a BOTW entry. But when I downloaded it and started processing it, it really grew on me.
I got the BOTW today! A downy woodpecker I saw while tapping a maple.
Is there a BOTW this week?
BOTW: I got a malabar flameback woodpecker while at a bird survey!
Oh nooo. I forgot again . Here I’ll think of one.
Bird of the Week
Sparrows
BOTW today: I got woken up by a bunch of house sparrows doing who knows what in the gutters on my roof. They were very loud.
Very cool! House Sparrows can be very loud .
Yeah, I hear them every morning outside my window. Very loud little birds!
