Can I create an iNaturalist Umbrella Project for a local conservancy and it wrap in the other sub-projects
This sounds like exactly what Umbrella projects are designed for, so I’m not sure what you are asking. Do you want to do something you think isn’t covered in the usual definition of an Umbrella project?
Yeah absolutely, assuming you are looking to summarize all of your conversancy’s protected areas under one project. You can see how I’ve set it up for my land trust here. I have one project for each individual protected area and then the umbrella project to summarize them all.

let me add and additional question - if I sign up for the umbrella project does that automatically make it so that I don’t have to join the sub-projects?
No. If you join the umbrella project, you still have to join each individual collection project if you want the benefits of joining them.
thank you - that is what I was afraid of - I think I’ll just set it up as a collection project with each of the various site locations nested under the master project - thanks much for the needed info!
