It would be amazing to be able to overlap two species on a map right in iNat. I’m thinking particularly about plant and insect interactions. To be able to look at a host plant and see whether a particular insect has even been spotted near it would be so helpful. I did look for other forum questions like this, but the only one I could find was dated back to 2021. I’m sure I’ve missed newer requests.
Yes. Use the compare tool. Here’s an example.
Where can that tool be found?
Thank you, I’ll see if I can figure out how to use this.
Thank you- I will give this a try
Here!
You can build the queries on the explore page using the usual URL filters then copy and paste them into the tool. Very useful for making comparative phenology plots by using annotation values.
Sorry, I wasn’t clear in my question. Without having the specific URL, can that tool be found anywhere? Is the link on any species page or dropdown that I’m not seeing? Where did you find that tool originally?
The last I heard from staff on it (several years ago), it was still considered an experimental tool that is intentionally not part of the main site navigation.
This is a little out of date but there are several features like that: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/list-of-inaturalist-org-features-wiki/28939
Ah, that makes sense why I couldn’t find it. Thanks for the additional info!
Post about a third party tool here. This can also compare phenology between multiple species and has lots of options to narrow down queries by place, project, people, etc. Here’s an example two species compared in the San Francisco Bay Area. You can add more than two species as well but it can get messy depending on how much they overlap.
