Casual vs Research grade in some species specific to one area

I’ve noticed a few times that some of my casual observations species are RG, only in one instance did an identifier reverse it realizing it was another species. The other times it remains a mystery to me.

Here is the most recent example.

I have observed this twice, both show as casual, but I see 7 RG observations of the same species here in Okinawa, would anyone happen to know the difference between mine and the other 7?

Here are the 7 RG observations;

Thank you for your help! Mine were observed along the edge of the jungle, so I assumed that they were wild, but on occasion I have heard of people growing/planting some species in or on the edge of the jungle.

when you go to the DQA, you can see that the not-wild vote was added by ‘iNaturalist’, ie an automated vote by the system.

This is because

if there are at least 10 other observations of a genus or lower in the smallest county-, state-, or country-equivalent place that contains this observation and 80% or more of those observations have been marked as not wild/naturalized, the system will automatically apply a downvote for the qualification organism is wild.

if you are confident your record is indeed of a wild plant, you can just add your own counter-vote and it will no longer be casual

Oh so that is why that occasionally happens

Thank you for the extra details, it makes sense. I did notice that it was iNaturalist who voted in the most recent observation, I am not confident, so casual is probably better for mine. Should the other 7 be corrected or will the system get to them too?

if the system hasn’t already added an automatic vote, it won’t happen now; so for any of those that you confidently believe are planted, they will need to be manually marked as such

FWIW, here’s the iNat help article: https://help.inaturalist.org/en/support/solutions/articles/151000170240

Okay. Got it. Thanks again for the replies!

Thanks for the link! The casual observations except my own are not visible by default, so it was a little bit confusing at first, as there are only 7 visible by default even at the country level, until you uncheck verifiable, using the explore feature. I am still learning!
