This has to be one of the odder uses of iNaturalist for research that I’ve seen.
Are there any observations of the hole on iNat?

Edit: Less diagnostic example after it became a shrine:
Surprised the news went with “Chicago Rat Hole” instead of the much better “Splatatouille” as named in the wiki page.
A fine example of the mammalian order Road-indent-ia.
Humans do this sort of thing. Here’s a shrine to a dead raccoon in 2015:

Can someone find this observation on iNat?
Not the racoon, but it reminds me of 2nd most favored cat observation on iNat (warning: dead). Here’s all cat observations sorted by favorites.
That’s some dark humor and a fairly avant-garde iNat observation.
Well obviously! Squirrels have four fingers on their front paws and five toes on their hind paws, while rats have five digits on all four paws.
And on the evolutionary path to being opposable, from the look of it.
Not amused ![]()
Completely agree! I’m surprised it’s so well-liked given that it’s not adorable like many of the other cat observations.
Yeah. Can’t say I approve of it but it doesn’t violate any iNat rules since roadkill is allowable. Just poor taste. Although if I’d seen that I might have photo’d it also, just not posted it.
I like @nonbinary-naturalist’s solution to this, which is the Alive Animals project.
This one might be more amusing, even though it’s under mouse observations.
