iNaturalist is primarily about observing wild organisms.

Many of us love animals and find them cute, and there are multiple forum threads about “cute organisms”, even featuring many animals that are not considered “cute” in popular culture!

However, due to our focus on wild organisms, when dogs are mentioned on the forum, it is most often a question about feral dogs living in the wild, rather than pets. Does that make sense?

I discovered there is a “cute” tag for observations and so I’ve been adding cute organisms and plants to it as I see them for months.

These are the most cute animals. There is no bias of any kind in this list. It is perfect.

I try not to anthropomorphize insects, but I think skippers with their big eyes are cute:

Pied-billed Grebe- with those chubby cheeks. This one will be on a t-shirt soon with the words Keep Florida Wild and Beautiful-Please Don’t Litter. I asked my talented Daughter in law to design it for me for my upcoming birthday. I haven’t seen it yet. So excited.

The cutest wild animal has got to be a least weasel. They are so tiny and curious. One time I was trying to catch one under a bucket because it got in my dovecote, and it kept putting it’s little paws up on the edge and peering at me, trying to decide whether I was too big to eat. And those big shiny eyes!

Numbat is cutest animal for me, it’s a marsupial. I haven’t had chance to see one, since they only live in West Australia, I haven’t had chance to go there yet.
