Description of need:
When a common name is identical in two different languages and the user has opted to display the common names of more than one language, in my case for example English and Dutch, in both languages Adder being the common name for Vipera berus, the system currently only displays the name once, as it is probably reasoning that it is the same name in both languages anyway and so there is ‘no need’ to display it twice.
It should better display both names separated with a raised dot as usual, even when the names are identical in two languages. This way, the user has immediate feedback that the name is indeed identical in both languages, otherwise it will look like a common name is missing in one of the two languages. When one of the two languages does not have a common name (yet), the system also displays only one name, and so a user has to actively look in the ‘Taxonomy’ section to see if the same name is indeed identical and uploaded (as the preferred name) for both languages instead of seeing this immediately, which is not practical.
Feature request details:
This is probably a very minor issue as it only applies to those instances where organisms carry the exact same name in two different languages, such as the Adder example. In comparison with other species in this genus, for example I see “Greek Viper · Griekse Weideadder” and “Lataste’s Viper · Wipneusadder”, so both the English name and the Dutch name, separated by a raised dot, in cases where the names are different. For Anatolian Meadow Viper, I only see the English name, because currently there is no Dutch name given for this species yet. However, for Adder I also only see ‘Adder’. It now looks like the name is lacking in one of the languages because only one name is given, such as the case with the Anatolian Meadow Viper, but in the case of the Adder the name is submitted for both languages and happens to be identical. This can easily be solved by displaying “Adder · Adder” instead.
