Distribution and Observations of Scolymus Species in Türkiye (hispanicus, maculatus, grandiflorus)

hi dear everyone,

I would like to create a forum page on iNaturalist focusing on the distribution and flora of Scolymus species in Türkiye. In particular, I am interested in Scolymus hispanicus, Scolymus maculatus, and Scolymus grandiflorus.

Recently, I have noticed that S. maculatus has become rather scarce in the Aegean region, while S. grandiflorus appears almost absent, except for a few indirect references—such as the municipal study carried out in Datça (Muğla).

I believe an open platform for observations and discussions would be very valuable for sharing insights on the noticeable distribution patterns of these species. I would be glad to hear your observations and thoughts on this subject.

Welcome to the forum! This sounds like an interesting question, though it’s outside the general usage of the forum. I might suggest creating a project for the species you are interested in in Turkiye on iNat itself. You could gather observations there, write posts about your interest, etc.
