Both of these moths are speculated to be a female Numenes strandi. However, the first moth does not present in the usual color the species comes with. I just want to hear others’ opinions on this. (taken by the same phone, and they’re 2 different sightings).
I don’t place too much trust in fine color distinctions in photos from modern smartphones taken with automatic settings. Many smartphones make internal, automatic color adjustments based on a variety of different mechanisms (algorithms, AI, etc.). “Color” will also appear differently (to human eyes as well) based on light source, contrast, etc. The photos here were clearly made under different light conditions (backlit vs. side, more natural vs. artificial). I would guess that the moths could be similar colors and that differences could mainly be due to lighting conditions and onboard photo processing.
the phone was really old and the photos were taken during 2020, before AI, but yeah, the settings could totally contribute to inaccurate color especially since the phone was quite old. thank you for sharing your thoughts!!

Single layer backlit wing is yellow, double layer backlit wing is dark orange on both photos.
