Extinct plant rediscovered in Hawaii

In 2002, the last known surviving individual of Delissea argutidentata died, sealing its fate. It was just rediscovered last year and published a few days ago.

Great news! Interesting this discovery happened on the Big Island rather than Kauai, which is where most of the plant rediscoveries in recent years have occurred.

For what it’s worth this had been considered extinct in the wild, not completely extinct (this is mentioned offhand in the article but not until well down in it). Several hundred of them descended from the previous known wild plant are outplanted around the island. Still a significant find!
