Filter life list to a location?

Hello, Is there a way to filter ones life list to a certain area? I started a bug array in my yard in March 2026 and is has been quite successful, I’d like to create a Facebook album of my bugs. Using the location filter, I can limit my species from 4,000+ to just 700. Great. But can I synch my life list to my yard? I don’t want to have to sift through 4,000+ species to find the 700 that I have seen in my yard. Is there a workaround for this?

Thanks.

I’m not sure about the lifelist, but a project would be a nice way to display the data, give a species list, and would be easy to implement (so it might be nice anyways)

i’m not sure how filtering your life list to your yard helps you make a FB album of your bugs exactly, but suppose:

then maybe one of these gets you what you need:

You can use this tool I built https://glauberramos.github.io/inat/lifelist, I think you can get the result you need

Is there any particular feature you need that the life list page gives you but the explore page doesn’t? It would help to know what exactly you are after

For some senseless reason, iNaturalist only filters by frequency – frequently observed species are listed first and rare species are listed last. I do not see any benefit to this arrangement. I want the list to be in taxonomic sequence, with all blazing stars in sequence, all moths in sequence, all beetles in sequence, all birds in sequence, all palms in sequence, etc.

At first attempt. I could not get your system to filter my life list other than by listing all 4,000+ species.

Your third link may be what I need, but I need to examine it in more detail, Thank you.

if the point was to get an idea of how to group things, adding an option to the second thing may also help you get something usable: https://jumear.github.io/stirfry/iNatAPIv2_observations_species_counts?nelat=28.502488316130407&nelng=-82.5238037109375&swlat=28.49766083296347&swlng=-82.529296875&taxon_id=47120&user_id=billpranty&options=ancestry.

on that page, you can click the link to export results, then open the results in a spreadsheet program or some sort of scripting setup, and then sort by the ancestry column.

If you have a place created for your yard (or if not, if you’d be willing to creating one), you could just use the built in dynamic life list page.

If you’d rather not have that place on iNat, I think external tools will be your only option to get what you’re looking for.
