Freshwater jellyfish in the San Francisco Bay Area

Since Freshwater jellyfish (Craspedacusta sowerbii) is in season currently, I was wondering where I can find jellyfish around the bay area that are not listed in observations. I am currently testing and running observations on how temperature variations impact populations of the medusa, and I would appreciate more testing opportunities.

Thank You!

If it is important to find locations not listed in observations, that are a few things you could try. One is to visit areas where there are observations and see if there are any shared habitat features, then look for other areas with those same features.

Another possibility, if these are jellyfish that people would notice and comment on on platforms such as Nextdoor, is to follow the activity on such platform.

Does any local government agency or NGO track these (for example, because they affect the use of recration areas)?

Freshwater hydroids are pretty understudied and underobserved, so I’m not sure you’ll have much luck without getting out there and looking for them. It’s possible there are published records, but looking for polyps will probably be easier even though they’re tiny because they are around for longer. I’ve found C. sowerbii with Cordylophora, which is much larger and easily visible.
