This is an inkcap pin I am incubating on horse manure at home just in case it turns out to be this curiosity I found back in May. I am checking it every hour and keeping it well-spritzed with water. The drought in my part of the UK has meant I have not seen many Psathyrellaceae recently!
During our wet season I find this growing on moss and it reminds me a little bit of a fried egg!
It’s an ascomycete, which you can tell from the spore bearing cell in the last photo. It’s in the same phylum as yeast, cup fungi, morels, and most lichen.
I love fungi! They’re cute, weird and sometimes freaky.

Complex Rickenella fibula - these were SO small, about the height of my thumbnail.
Smooth Cage Fungus. There were a bunch of “eggs” around them in various states of hatching. So cool and just sitting beside a nearby bike trail!
