Why – if we ask for ivy – is the second item on the list (clicked in error among my Kingdom Disagreement batch) but I won’t post that link.

Blue Ivy Coral – which has one, I repeat a single obs – flying high above the various common ivy sp.

And then why, when the coral is chosen, does it not show the Family – which would be a useful prompt for Kingdom Disagreement error.

this is not enough useful info to warn the identifier. That blue and green thumbnail could be … anything. But the botanist’s comment makes it clear that a plant sp is intended.

And if you prefer not to show common names, you lose even the ‘Corals’ warning.

I typed “Hedera” in the home page and the coral came up tenth.

Wikipedia has no page about the coral, but at [[Alcyoniidae]] has a link to [[Hedera (coral)]], which isn’t there.

And to be fair to CV, the observation is ivy growing next to a waterfall. Which is disconcerting.

As phma says, in a neutral setting on the home page, I also get the coral tenth.

I think the first thing the system looks for is an exact match, which is why the coral genus comes up second. If you type in hedera , which includes a space after the hedera, you won’t see the coral. Or, if you type heder you won’t see the coral either.

All those plant-animal pairs that share a genus name are super confusing. This one seems especially bad since they share “ivy” in the common name.
