How do I handle the transition of provisional fungal taxa to published taxa?

I am author on a new species. It has appeared on iNat as a provisional species name - now I want to create the published taxon and move the provisional records to the legitimate name. There are 9 diff taxa to resolve.

What steps should I take to do this? I could create the new name and then use ID to change, but assume there is some better way to track the official passage from provisional to legitimate.

Example: Existing records with provisional name: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?taxon_id=1664522
New taxon: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/1684301-Calonarius-pretiosus

I am a new curator, so advice on any aspect of the process is appreciated.

If I rename and use the ID consensus process, this seems ineffective for this process. E.g. this observation is of the DNA sequenced Holotype from the paper but my ID now appears as a Maverick: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/146384659

What you should presumably do is create a taxon swap: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/new?input_taxon_ids[]=1664522

Your input taxon will be the provisional taxon and the output will be the valid species. This will automatically change every suggested ID of the provisional taxon on iNat to the new species name.

I agree with Chris - create the new name and do a taxon swap.
