How do observations get "stuck"? What's the criteria?

Link that observation if you can.

Isn’t it 2/3

It is ‘over’ 2/3 which pushes it to 3 out of 4.

It appears that the iNat 2/3 (or 3/4) requires they be at the same level e.g. 3 of 4 at genus or 3/4 at species. Species level appears to not be factored into the genus equation even though as you point out species includes genus by default. Add to that more ID’s increase the number of agreeing ID’s required.

I had no idea it was a bad idea to add IDs like Coleoptera :( I feel bad now that I’ve done this several times, mainly when an ID seems to be stuck as something else (like “life”) and I’m trying to hopefully get it seen by people who might be able to ID it.

It IS a good idea to narrow down the ID! Do this! When this observation later shows up on my feed with a genus or other ID, I try (if I remember) to remove the more general ID so it can go to Research Grade faster. Actually, I’m not very consistent about this, but this is my intention.

We users all agree that adding a broad ID is right!
But iNat doesn’t fight fair.
There are a few older threads, as it is an ongoing issue that bothers us.
Without a solution in sight.
I am wimping out with supporting IDs myself.
