How to create a "blank" project that allows any taxa to be manually added from anywhere in the world but won't auto-populate from members?

Hello! Apologies if this is a stupid question. I’m attempting to create a project for organisms worthy of fantasy novels (mostly for my own reference, but also to share with fellow authors/writers, because I am tired of every book just recycling crows/roses/lilacs/etc when we have so many weird, wonderful organisms).

I keep running into trouble of how to essentially set up a “blank” project that people can manually add anything they want to. It initially wouldn’t let me create the project without certain taxa, regions, or dates selected, but when I selected the setting to only allow project members to add submissions, it then populated every observation I’ve made. I was hoping to make a curated project where people who found a remarkably beautiful or weird creature or plant could add it in. I assumed this was possible because I’ve joined projects that aren’t limited to taxa or a place and instead have the requirement of “found at gas station” or “found in compost pile”, but maybe I’m missing something obvious?

I’ve included a screenshot of the settings and error message I’m getting below. I’m probably missing something very stupid, but would appreciate help! Thank you! (And if you personally have a bug/plant/fungi etc you think is fantasy-novel worthy, let me know! My latest is the painted lichen moth. Moth tax below for answering my boomer tech question.)

welcome to the forum

you’re trying to make a collection project; you need to make a traditional project instead

oh my god I feel so dumb, THANK YOU! I don’t know how I missed that!

You missed it because it’s way down at the bottom of the page - many people miss it!

Feel zero shame – you are not an iNatter until you have had this feeling at least once. :)

Welcome to the Forum. Happy project!
