Sorry to ask such a tiny question. I want to label an observation Salix section Longifoliae. iNaturalist recognizes that section. I checked relevant Taxon pages to confirm that. I’ve tried writing Salix Longifoliae, Salix section Longifoliae, and Salix sect. Longifoliae. None work. What does work?

Yes, for better or worse, in iNat the ranks and parent taxa of names are stored separately from the names themselves. So for names above species rank, all you can do is enter the epithet. If it’s a common epithet, you may get a long list of taxa to pick from, with only tiny thumbnail images as your guide.
True, but the sectional and subgenus names could be entered as common names, e.g. Carex sect. Phacocystis. Not worth doing for most, since most of these names aren’t used much, but it could be a valuable choice for any such names that turn out to be used a lot.
