How to upload vidoes in Inat?

I’ve noticed that some observations include a GIF or a short video instead of just photos. I’d love to know how that’s done, as I have a camera trap that records videos of wildlife. At the moment, my workaround is to take screenshots from the videos and upload those as photos, but the image quality is much worse than the original footage. Is there a way to upload videos or convert them into GIFs that can be attached to an observation? My camera trap records videos in AVI format, if that makes any difference.

No way to upload videos to iNat, but you can upload animated gifs as long as each file is less than 20Mb each.

There are many ways of creating gifs - depends on your OS etc., or you can use an online gif creator. Search the web for options.

For videos, you can upload them to a video-hosting site like Vimeo or youtube and add the link to the relevant observation on iNat.

Staff have shared that gifs may be turned into static images in the future – so it’s probably best to add a screenshot and link to a video elsewhere, like YouTube, in the description.
