Hello everybody! I’m not sure who to talk to about this, so I just figured I’d throw it out here so if there’s a positive response, maybe somebody in-the-know will see it! For a long time now I’ve been wanting an INaturalist phone case, but I also wanted one that was a little more utilitarian for our purposes of helping make observations. Included is a picture of the regular phone case offered at the official INaturalist merchandise store. How cool would it be if there was a similar case like this that retained the iNat bird logo or name, but also have a slot for a removable 5inch(or so/maybe even metric) ruler? I imagine it would be removable similar to a toothpick from a Swiss Army knife. Now how about another slight indentation in the case above the camera lens that allowed for seamless pairing with a designated clip-on magnification lens? Or even if it was compatible to be used with a set of clip-on lenses that vary in magnification. I personally think having the “iNaturalist” brand name itself on the phone would be best and it would be nice if you could choose from at least a few different basic colors. Also somebody suggested a teaming with Otterbox so they would be very rugged, which I think would be excellent!
The way I see it is that this would help active iNaturalist users engage in conversations with curious people or wordlessly advertise the company and thus its mission, and help with citizen science observations to give them more empirical data and encourage better photograph taking.
Maybe this is just a pipe dream, but I wanted to share the thought anyway! Thanks for reading!
