I’ve been poking around the “frequently used responses”, and while posts made by the iNat.ca staff are all bilingual EN/FR, their copy/paste responses lists are not. I wanted to post one of the “welcome to iNat” generic messages as a comment, but couldn’t find any non-english versions of the stuff on help.inaturalist.org. I was wondering if the translation volunteers have any free time to translate some of those copy + pastes, and that they can live on a page on iNat ca? (or, have a rosetta stone type situation on the iNat help page maybe?).
For the one I wanted, my friend ended up landing on this translation (feel free to use in your own IDs):
Je ne sais pas exactement quelle espèce est présente ici, mais cette identification générale pourra aider les autres qui pourraient connaître l’espèce. Beaucoup de gens qui font l’identification sur iNaturalist filtrent les observations avec leurs espèces connues, comme « plantes » ou « insectes », et cette identification générale les aidera à les trouver plus vite.
I’m not quite sure which species this is, but this general identification will help other people who might know the species find your observation. Many people helping identify observations on iNaturalist filter the observations by the group of species they know how to identify, like “plants” or “insects”, and this general ID will help them find it more quickly.
and I… don’t want to keep relying on the goodwill of others to help me translate for ppl in rural QC.
(please don’t leave comments telling me to just use english and let them stick it into an online translator. the internet (and the world, for that matter) has enough english-language domination that this really is the least i could do.)
