iNat Milestones

I have extremely fond memories of Ecuador, even if the country changed quite a bit since I have been there. I instantly believe that you enjoyed your trip! Impressive numbers for sure!

I just hit 2100 days straight with an iNaturalist observation. Nice round number.

Today I noticed that I have precisely 3000 observations in “Needs ID”. That’s nearly half my total, which is the downside of observing a lot of arthropods and being cautious with using CV, I suppose.

Just hit 7,000 observations! Still plenty in my backlog needing to be uploaded. When I upload from previous years I try to upload stuff from around the same time of year. I’m currently working to wrap up on uploading stuff from this summer. Last week for a change of pace I decided to upload a trip to Watson Rare Native Plant Preserve on August 16, 2018.

Well… I hit 50000 IDs!

Are binoculars allowed? Because if so you could get decent bird shots by combining the two like this:

It’s how I do most of my bird photography.

Thanks for the tip. Now I’ll need to look for one of these attachments.

Just got 10K (and 3001 for the year).

You dont really need those, and most of the time they just scratch the binocular. I just use my hands. I take a video instead of a photo, since I can’t really click photos with both my hands holding the binocular and phone. I then just screenshot any good frames of the video.

And then delete the videos so that you have enough space

Now only a handful of “flags resolved” away from becoming the 13th member of the 500-500-500 club

I actually used this for most of my bird photography in 2024.

The photos are quite good (for my level) and technically don’t count as a camera.

I guess the next milestone to try for is to get the circle into even fourths by color

Achievement unlocked!

I know that I’m still strictly in the bush leagues, compared to some of the other IDers here, but it feels good. Like I’m really contributing now. Next up, 15k!

Wohoo, now a milestone I am really happy about, I just published my very first ID guide

https://www.inaturalist.org/journal/ajott/118556-quick-identification-guide-to-tigrosa-females

I wanted to do some guides since years. First on Argiope, but I do rarely ID them anymore and also do feel there are some better and more involved Argiope IDers active here by now. Then on european Pisauridae/ Dolomedidae.. I might do that one still, but these taxa are more of a winter project for me. And now finally the Tigrosas made me do it… it was just such a nice place to start with only a handful species and their limited range
