Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
Hopefully that is not your final destination, but merely a stop along the way?
You certainly do deserve a rest stop, though!
another 25K to achieve the quarter million ? I wonder how long that would take ?
This NOT a quarter has taken me over 8 Years.
Have cleared another batch – for the Western Cape at least
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/monospecific-plant-genera-in-s-afr
That is quick for the ones I already know, and OK for the new to me which I have to learn first.
PS from the link someone on the Forum offered me (replace my name in the links below)
I have 3.2K Reviewed but still Unknown (I have NO idea, duplicate please delete, please combine with the other obs of this)
But worth a second look for Reviewed and without my ID ?
195K that would be 420K and lurching towards half a million Reviewed.
Not a milestone but, nevertheless, a small moment of personal satisfaction and a reason to keep slogging through the backlog of unidentifieds - this week I identified two species new to iNat. I don’t mean that I observed them; they were observed by other people, but I was able to put a name to them and thereby add them to iNat’s total.

what a difference a year makes!
compared to a lot of users, i have a low observation count. i’m not on a lot of leaderboards, though i am at the top for one national park property. i go frequently, grabbing a few to a dozen observations at a time.
(though if you actually view the observations, i have 823 species recorded - i’m guessing the discrepancy is the numerous observations IDed to genus, family, etc., and the 568 is species-level IDs?)
36 plant species, 24 chordate species… 738 arthropod species…
i have 23 observations of pursewebs, i should upload another to match my vertebrate species count! (i have 5 other purseweb spider observations within the park - but 23 obs of just the web)

Just broke 1,000 species count last weekend, and this weekend I’m over 1,100!
Let’s goooo! ![]()
I tried id’ing unknowns since the last 2 days. It was to say the least addictive.
the advantage: reached 20,000 ids by making 1,000 ids in 3 days. Mostly Indian unknowns.
That is 1/20th of ids I ever made on iNat made in 3 days. I need to work more. I have certainly been lagging on ids too:
(the most recent one is not an unknown though).
I thought I will be reaching this in 10-15 days. This fast?
The disadvantage? The corner of the screen:

Nooooooooo…
Now – you understand – why notification management is a very real issue.
I literally had never seen notifications this much ![]()

PS: I also understand why people chase unknowns so much now…
People have told us about notifications running over a thousand … that would make me abandon iNat
But your 133 is pretty average for my daily iNatting.
I used to get several hundred notifications a day, because I did a lot of ID’ing. When I posted bird observations, the numbers went up even more. Sadly, I almost never get the chance to ID anymore because I spend so much time on homework. I’m taking my first college course this year, and it’s rough! Now I’m seeing maybe 50 notifications, if I’m lucky :(
I thought that they had stopped looking at iNat for 1 month, then they see that…
