Released versions 1.0.22, 1.0.23, and 1.0.24

  • There should be performance improvements when it comes to things like lags when tapping buttons or scrolling. If you are using the latest version and are experiencing issues with scrolling and button taps, please add information to this bug report.
  • Improved zoom behavior when searching for places in the location picker
  • Added edit button to your own user profile, which you can tap to access your account settings
  • Other small improvements
  • Continued behind the scenes work for an Android version, should available for some beta testing soon

Aarav, I think you meant to reply to Tony? While I appreciate your tireless advocacy for guides, it’s been 7.5 years with no change in the decision, so the chances are not looking great.

yes int will develop anything (id tips, i forgot the name of that ai based tool that used to examine comments and pull out comments which not distinguishing features which was a demo and what not) but they will never look at guides.

Aarav, you are very smart — not just for a 13-year-old, but for anyone! I’m going to say something that, at 13 years old, I would not have listened to, but I think you’ll get it.

Have you considered the possibility that you might work for iNaturalist one day? You could make bringing back Guides into your personal mission from the inside.

I’m planting this seed because if you make that your goal, it changes how you operate today. It can guide your educational path, but it can also shape how you post on this forum. Everything you write creates a permanent digital footprint. If you use a professional, constructive tone now to advocate for the things that you care about, the iNaturalist staff will remember you for the right reasons!

I really just want to work on taxonomy. iNat has flaws but taxonomy has massive ones. I know a ton of them and am trying to work on a paper because C. A. Viraktamath and later D. A. Dmitriev both told me that age is no restriction in publishing. I remember the words of the former, “Age is no bar in publishing as long as there is some new information new discovery”. before that I thought I could not try to write a paper at this age. I will submit it and hope it works.
