# iPad doesn't retrieve photo metadata using website

on the Mac we noted in [another thread](https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/a-different-heic-question/33028) that the Photos app will do an automatic conversion of HEIC files to JPEG. i wonder if a similar conversion happens on the iPad and if that could lead to a loss of metadata somewhere in that process?
