While searching for images of tick larvae on iNaturalist using the life stage annotation, I noticed that the available options are only Egg, Juvenile, and Adult.
Would it make sense to use Egg, Larva, Nymph, and Adult instead, at least for taxa such as Ixodidae where these are meaningful developmental stages? “Juvenile” is ambiguous in this case, since it could refer to either a larva or a nymph.
I don’t know what the implications of such a change would be for the annotation system. Still, it seemed like a relevant question to raise !
