I need some advice please how to deal with in iNat Taxonomy.
I had some ID this afternoon, where someone had good (make you smile) ideas for a kind of “taxonomy” for human things (waste in the streets).
The observer now asks to withdraw the “homo sapiens”, because he want to ad the obs to a project of his own “taxonomy” (nice “latin”, which works together with german names of those things), which not seem to work, if the obs is “homo sapiens”.
How does iNat deal with those kind of nice ideas?
Thanks for any help.
Creating a taxonomy of human-related things sounds like an interesting idea! However, it is beyond the scope of iNaturalist. Please keep the ID “Homo sapiens” unless the observer tells you what he wants to call it and it seems to fit iNaturalist rules.
The identification of “Homo sapiens” sends observation to “Casual” and that does make them unusable for some purposes. I post the pink, orange, black, and skeletal plastic flamingos I’ve photo’d around here at Flamingos but not, and sooner later someone ID’s them at “Homo sapiens.”
Yeah, this has no place on iNaturalist. It’s a cute and somewhat absurdist idea, the observer should look for more appropriate spaces/platforms for their project.
Thank you very much for your reply and explanations.
Because it’s not a living thing, it won’t fit in iNats rules.
What a pity in that case, the observer would not be happy to hear about.
