Lantana (x) strigocamara - is it a useful taxon in iNat?

It exists in powo, which is why it’s here.
But is it really possible to distinguish this hybrid from L. camara based on flower photos?
Apparently, flower color is usually the ID criterion - can that be enough?
Or is this just a mass of scientifically unfounded, i.e. ultimately arbitrary, classifications?

(not quite sure where to place this issue, thought it’s better posted here rather than to put it in a flag)

hi - yes - best to start a flag for discussions about whether individual taxa should/shouldn’t be on iNat

though if the Q is more about identification of the taxon we could move this to Nature Talk

I’d prefer NatureTalk - don’t know if/how I can do that - help plz.

done!

strigocamara adaxial leaf surface is more hairy than camara (strigo = hairy) - you can see a broader key for Lantana sect. by Sanders who also proposed the strigocamara.

no, Lantana camara is widely variable in colors afaik. without regional datapoints or more detailed photos it could be hard if there are many conspecifics in that region to ID.

Thank you for the link to the key !
