Living Data 2025 in Colombia - who is coming?

Living Data 2025 is a joint conference of several biodiversity informatics organizations, including GBIF. It will start in 34d 10h from now, October 21 - 24 in Bogotá, Colombia.

I expect to meet many fellow iNaturalisters there — including on the dedicated session on iNaturalist (https://livingdata2025.com/sessions.html?session=6798855) by @tiwane @carrieseltzer et al.

The conference tours (https://www.livingdata2025.com/ecological-tours.html) encourage people to upload observations on iNaturalist directly

This Topic is to find out who else is coming to the conference and perhaps share sessions they are excited about, or nature trips they plan on doing there!

(I am personally excited for the Wikimedia and Biodiversity session)

Thanks for pointing this out! I’d love to watch the sessions, and am toying with the idea of flying down.

PS: I would always go for the Parama if you never saw one.. such an alien landscape

I would love to attend such an important gathering but I will not be able to. In my absence, I will offer a link to a recent journal article of mine which in turn has links to all of my Colombian observations from August of this year. The biodiversity at elevation in the western and central Andes is mind-boggling. I’ll be writing a separate journal article about new discoveries, but at last count our three-week effort encountered probably on the order of a half-dozen undescribed moths and several other new insects.

Looking forward to seeing folks there!

I’ve been lucky enough to visit it twice in Ecuador, it’s phenomenal! I don’t think I can make it there for this trip, though.

I will be giving a 5 minute lighting talk “Teaching community scientists how to analyze iNaturalist data using R” (ID 7018417) as part of the “Community Engagement and Capacity Building for Increased Biodiversity Data Accessibility (Part 2)” session (ID 6798479-2). I will attend the conference virtually, since as a community scientist I didn’t have an organization that could pay for me to go in person.

I would appreciate any feedback from iNaturalist people about my talk.
