I uploaded a record in northern Norway from a specimen loaned me by a colleague.
Consequently the map on my Edit Observations page has become meaningless as all the remainder of my (mainly UK) records are squeezed together in the lower left corner of the map display.
What methods are available for me to correct this?
First, you can zoom the map in and out. Second, rather than going to “Edit Observations”, you can go to “Your Observations”. In both cases, as well as moving the map, you can filter out observations. On the Edit Observation page, near the top you have three buttons, side by side – Add Obs, Batch Edit, and Search. Clicking on search will give you a set of possible filters. On the Your Observation page, there’s a button labeled Filters on the upper right.

I tried other features on the map itself. Zoomed in to the UK and pressed the “redo in map area” link. But that removes all the unpinned dots leaving me with just the last few pins. Temporarily I might add.
The pinned markers with the letters on them seem to drift into the background after a while, leaving behind plain dots. The records I made in Slovenia some time ago for example have no effect on the default map. Map extents must be based purely upon the most recently uploaded items. I’m guessing all older posts fade away like this.
Time travel could be one answer.
Yes, that’s what happens. Sometimes my “Edit Observations” map shows just the 100m around my home, if I haven’t been anywhere else for a while. Then I’ll get a chance to do some observations elsewhere, and the map zooms out again.
