Something from my ‘Word of the Day’ email, courtesy of Dictionary.com:

VOTARY

A votary is someone deeply devoted to a particular pursuit. The word originally referred to a person bound by a religious vow, and traces of that commitment still linger in its modern use. A votary doesn’t merely enjoy a hobby; they weave it into their lifestyle.

This got me thinking…

What’s YOUR favourite word to describe your relationship with iNaturalist?

The first word that comes to mind for me is investor. The ‘dividends’ I get back are incredibly rich - new knowledge, a deeper connection to my local environment, and a fantastic community. It’s one of the best return on investments I could ask for.

i guess i’m a ‘user’ cause i’m pretty boring generally, ha. i have referred to myself as an iNatter.

i mostly refer to myself as a hobby naturalist or amateur entomologist, but my preferred term is bugnerd.
