This is the risk that anyone takes when choosing to add (or respond to) an off-topic post. The outcome may not always be fair or tidy.
Better choices would to be to post in an on-topic context, and/or not respond to someone else’s off-topic post and consider flagging it instead.
Glad you admit it. There is still time to do something about that. Responding in the on-topic thread without those two previous posts would not make sense; but if all three were moved, it would bring the needed context.
It should be noted that when choosing the “off-topic” flag, it does say, “…and should probably be moved elsewhere.” That option should have been used in this case.
