It looks like nobody’s mentioned Mark Doesn’t Understand Animals yet, which is not so much based on knowledge of real-life animals, but contains many relatable sentiments for amateur naturalists!

Sadly the original site with high resolution panels is no more, but there are lo-res versions archived on tumblr. They’re in reverse order, so this is the start.

LOL. I sent it to my friends right away who are botanists. I am sure my partner doesn’t want to go on hikes with us any longer because we stop every 2 minutes to look at something…

I have little different suggestion since it’s a weekly episodic comic, not a “one shot”: the main character is in a role-playing game, but is focused on observing the in-game plants.
