Nature-inspired memes

I agree 100%!

In India we have shrike-babblers (neither a shrike nor a babbler), cuckoo-shrikes (neither a cuckoo nor a shrike), flycatcher-shrikes (neither a flycatcher nor a shrike) and canary-flycatchers (neither a canary nor a flycatcher).

Not to forget the monal-partridges, cuckoo-doves, peacock-pheasants, sparrow-larks, tit-warblers, wren-babblers, eagle-owls, hoopoe-larks, and drongo-cuckoos.

Special mention: Changeable Hawk-Eagle. What does Changeable even mean??? (Edit: Individuals show a wide range of variation in plumage from pale to dark, varying with moult and age giving rise to the name “changeable”.)

India, where the birds all stole each others’ names :p

Drongo-cuckoos: the drongos that went cuckoo :p

it would actually be more like the cuckoo that went drongo

Interchangeable Hawk-Eagle would really be something! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

They weren’t kidding, this hawk eagle sure is changeable!

Relatedly, it sounds like even the species’ scientific name is confused about what the nilgai is. (After all, how can something be a goat, cow, deer and camel all at once?)

Is it like a giraffe being a camel-leopard?

Giraffa camelopardalis

Just a drongo chilling

you’ll actually see lots of drongos whenever there are fires present, because the heat makes all the insects come out and they become an easy meal. very impressive checklist streak!! i’ve never gone ahead of 10 days :(

this meme also looks like the avian version of that one meme with a small girl smiling and standing in front of a burning house!

Please consider this a Casual observation.

Who here would play this game?

I wonder which mite would be the last one standing?

Paratarsotomus seems like a good candidate with how fast it is.

I was in this saree (an Indian outfit) store feeling extremely bored when I saw this sign! Gadwal is apparently a type of sarees, maybe of the Garhwal region in India? It instantly reminded me of the Gadwall and I just felt like making this random collage.
