If people want to try out the latest beta, we’re continuing to work on small peformance improvements. I can’t promise a breakthrough yet, but it would be interesting to see if updating to the beta helps with speed/performance at all.
OMG - So, so, much faster! I just deleted the app from my phone, restarted it, then reinstalled it and logged back in. Wow! What an improvement!
I’ll need to take this for a real spin later to make sure, but I think the deletion and reinstallation of the app made a world of difference.
(I think I chickened out previously when I saw Apple’s standard “Deleting this app will also delete its data” warning, even though I knew better. It is, of course, fine to do. Nothing lost.)
SOLUTION? If you’re having this problem, definitely delete the app, restart, and reinstall.
I tried the latest beta and it won’t upload photos. It identifies, but when I hit upload it immediately says fail. I have iPhone max pro 17. iOS 26.3.1 (a). The non-beta version has been completely frozen all day. And since last fall daily will fail to respond to anything. I’ve tried every single thing you’ve suggested in this thread. We are running a bio blitz next week and it’ll be really frustrating if the app isn’t working for folks. We will likely have everyone revert to classic, but it would be great to get this issue solved. I really love iNaturalist and its mission, I use it professionally, and would love to have the new version be much more useable. My colleagues who use it have all switched back to classic because the new app is so buggy for those of us that use it almost daily. [edit, after 35 minutes of refreshing it finally uploaded, nothing changed on my end, no change with connectivity or location).
Thanks for the feedback, I’m sorry it’s not working.
Can you please try to re-create the issue one more time and, if it persists, send us a log file from the app? That might provide some insight into what’s happening in the code.
To send a log file:
- Go to the About screen in the app and tap on the version number a few times until you see a pink “Turn off Debug Mode” button. That means you’ve now turned on Debug mode.
- In the side menu, tap on Debug
- Tap on “Email Debug Logs”
- Send an email with the log file to us
Not sure if yall are taking bug reports on the new app but here it is
Platform: iPhone 17
App version number: 1.0.19 (206)
Screenshots not applicable
Description:
Open app
Click a few buttons and it should freeze or lock up. I have quite a few observations so maybe that is the issue(?)
Thank you!
This seems to be a somewhat known issue. IIRC its due to the cache filling up.
Regardless, I found that if i just deleted the app from my device then reinstalled it, it went back to working just fine.
I’ll try that and let you know
Moved the above three posts to this existing bug report.
