**App version number** , if a mobile app issue (shown under About in the side menu): Next , is on iOS 18.0.1, iPhone 16 **Screenshots of what you are seeing** (instructions for taking a screenshot on computers and mobile devices: [https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/](https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/)): **Description of problem** (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.): Step 1: click Notifications Bell icon Step 2: see no updates for over a week Step 3: Notifications have not updated in the last six days. This is on iOS 18.0.1, iPhone 16 Do I need to do something to draw in newer notifications? E.g., close and reopen Next? This may be redundant info but I didn’t see it mentioned in your original post: The “Notifications” on the app are not actually all your notifications - that tab only shows updates to your own content. It will not show, e.g., comments on an observation you have commented or left an ID on. I believe it is the same content as shown here, minus “favorites” and maybe some other items: [https://www.inaturalist.org/home?tab=yours](https://www.inaturalist.org/home?tab=yours) So if the above link shows recent updates _to your own content_ but the app doesn’t, there may be something wrong. If the notifications you’re missing are for other users’ observations, those aren’t currently included in the app (although I hope/assume this will be added later) ---

You can still add/withdraw IDs from the app, but you won’t get notifications so you’d have to go find those observations some other way. I assume (well, hope) that the functionality to see all your notifications in the Next app will be added eventually, along with messaging and other features. I know right now they are focusing on bugs/usability issues and not new features, but I have to assume these things will be added sooner or later. ---

Thank you for the acknowledgement @albullington . I take it then that Next was never intended as a stand-alone app? It was only designed as an adjunct to the iNat website? ---

Thus far the iNat app(s) have always been meant as a way to get data to the website and have had little functionality with data management of ones own data, much less doing IDs for others. It would be awesome to have an app to do ID for others- simple filters, swipe right for reviewed, swipe left to skip without reviewing, click to add ID, swipe up to flag for review on the website. Or something. But i get the impression there’s no resources or interest to develop that app by iNat ---

In the next beta builds, we are adding a section to Notifications which shows notifications on others’ observations in addition to your own. ---

I like how this was implemented very much. The two-tab organization of notifications for user’s observations andIdentifications done for others is very neat and convenient. Thank you‼️ ---
