Hello - just been looking at what I thought were my observations and came across several that I didn’t recognise - on looking they were other people’s and from locations I’ve never been to. For example - Willow Ptarmigan appears in my list but it isn’t mine but when I searched for it brought up my Red Grouse. There are others - do I have to go through every observation?
Red grouse is (currently) a subspecies of willow ptarmigan.
So your red grouse observation will show that you have seen willow ptarmigan in your life list.
but it is not my observation at all - my red grouse doesn’t show
The top screenshot is of the taxon page, not an observation. Are you sure you’re clicking on the right thing?
this is a screenshot from my observations - the string at the top shows purplesusieq which is my username. the taxon shot was when I clicked onto the observation - it shows the owner of the observation.
To be 100% sure, are you reporting that the observation 225601871 is not yours?
Did you request a merge of 2 user accounts (purplesusieq and another account) recently?
This is a screenshot of the “species view” of your observations.
Please notice the
view=species
in the URL
That’s why, in this view, your are seeing the taxon page photos, and not your photos.
For example, when restricting to Lagopus lagopus,
Observations view:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?taxon_id=931&user_id=purplesusieq
Species view:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?user_id=purplesusieq&view=species&taxon_id=931
Correct - I have not observed a Willow ptarmigan (not sure how I check the reference number you are quoting) and I have not requested a merge of 2 user accounts.
https://www.inaturalist.org/people/purplesusieq is your account, right? If yes, then you have definitely observed a Willow Ptarmigan, at this observation of yours: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/225601871
That record shows photos of a Willow Ptarmigan, but IDed to a specific subspecies of Willow Ptarmigan
Willow Ptarmigan has many subspecies:
one of these is Red Grouse, which is what you observed
the red grouse is mine observed in the UK - the Willow ptarmigan is observed in North America
red grouse is a willow ptarmigan, just one of its many subspecies. All red grouses are willow ptarmigans, but not all willow ptarmigans are red grouses
why when there is an exact species offered does that exact species with an exact photo of that species not show in my observations then ? this is very confusing
I think that there may be two levels of confusion here. Firstly the observations tab shows your own observations i.e. your own picture, but the species tab only lists which species you have observed with a general picture.
On top of this, the species tab only shows which species you have observed (in this case ‘Willow ptarmigan’), but it does not break it down into subspecies (e.g. Red Grouse). I think this is part of the confusion. Red Grouse is not a species.
