Observation Taxon chosen incorrectly

The observation in question.

As you can see in the observation above, the observation taxon is set to spanish sparrow, while I have not suggested that as an ID at all, rather I suggested the house sparrow and later revoked that with the parent genus True Sparrows.

My understanding was that the observation taxon is set to whatever you (as in the observer) last IDed but apparently that’s not the case. I’d like this to be set to True Sparrows to be able to say “Community Taxon cannot be improved” but I am not sure how to do so.

Note: i am not posting this as a bug report because I am assuming that I am misunderstanding, rather than the app being wrong.

If you disagree the observation can be identified to species, add a new genus ID and select the orange button in the popup.

I am on desktop, I don’t see any orange button.

Also as you can see the last option is disabled, which I assumed was because the observation taxon doesn’t match the community taxon.

OK, from what it looks like to me, you will have to explicitly disagree with p. hispaniolensis and then the check box will be available. Right now the one ID is leading, which as it appears makes the CI algorithm think that there is no community ID. Strange, but if you reject that ID, you should be able to tick that box.

Edit to add: the orange button will (should) appear once you commit to the ID as passer.

Thanks, that seemed to do the trick. which is weird because my last ID technically disagrees with p. hispaniolensis but it didn’t get recognized as such.

I don’t see how it does? If you don’t choose to explicitly disagree with the orange button, your Passer ID is just saying “I think this is in genus Passer”, it does not in any way say "I don’t think this is identifiable as Passer domesticus". From what I understand this is intentional design, i.e. if you think the ID can’t be improved past Passer then you should have to explicitly disagree with the P. domesticus ID, it doesn’t make sense to do one without the other.
