Is there a good way to organize the observations I’ve favorited? There are a few that I need to reference occasionally while identifying, ones I would like to come back to later to ID once I learn more about the species, and ones that I have favorited just because I liked the photo.
My problem is scrolling through 6 pages of favorited observations to find one where I and another identifier had a discussion or shared something important is kind of a pain. I thought about creating something like an excel sheet for my favorited observations so I can find certain things but that just feels like a lot of work for me right now.
I also have the same issue, there are observations that I want to refer to, unknowns that I want to get back to or other interesting taxa. I have the iNaturalist Enhancement Suite chrome extension which is a good base, I then just use one of the AI model to modify it and add custom pages for me, I have filters and searches for my observations, but not yet my favorites since I don’t have that many. So now I can search and filter through all my ID’s. I found it surprisingly fast and simple to create custom functionality for my needs.
With 47 pages of favorites, i pretty much have given up even trying, and barely use my favorites pages anymore. I now use traditional projects to organize things and have like 140 projects.
This does mean users who don’t allow adding observations to projects they aren’t in, affects how much attention I give to their Chironomidae observations. I used to care more about that, but don’t as much now. It’s their loss and their right to use that setting.
The code for the extension is on Github, you can download it and modify it. But it does require some coding expertise, not much though. Then I just create a filter and search for my observations page, it looks like this https://i.postimg.cc/JzvwQwcq/Screenshot-2026-07-10-at-00-14-03.png. Maybe the author will add that functionality.
It would be nice even if we could use a URL modification to view our favourites in explore view! At the moment, the favourites function is not very useful.
