Being able to see all images (and not just the first of each observation) in the explorer overview is by far the feature I miss the most in INaturalist. Also pagination would help to speed up the explorer page (example: the ‘unfolded’ and paginated photo browser on Observation.org)
I firmly believe that adding an ‘unfolding’ feature is by far the easiest and most effective update INaturalist can make to increase its usefulness as a reference for traits of more difficult species groups that need multiple traits for a certain identification (such as plants).
When you know users who take good detailed photos of a taxon you’re interested in, the ‘unfold’ option allows you to filter out their observations and to easily see the important ID-features at a glance, without needing to open each observation separately.
